What to do when a paper-related problem is encountered...
Step Two: Accumulate Basic Evidence
- - Report the NewPage order number found on the defective stock.
- - Identify the roll, skid, or run number as found on the roll, skid, carton, or ream label.
- - Record the critical information for the paper involved (e.g. basis weight, grade, finish, size, grain direction, quantity ordered and printed).
- - Record complete press information (make, model, size, number of units, brand of ink and plates, color sequence and type of dampening system).
- - Include competitive samples if reference is made to their performance.
- - Clearly mark defects on the sheets and identify all sheets submitted.
- - Pack samples flat if they are to be test printed, evaluated for curl, or involve defects in size variation or dimensional stability. Minimum sheet sample size 8-1/2” x 11” grain long. (For samples which do not require testing, a mailing tube may be used).
REMEMBER: Samples are usually reviewed by an individual who was not present at the time the problem occurred, therefore, the samples and accompanying complaint report must thoroughly document the problem for a claim to be evaluated properly and honored. In the absence of a NewPage Technical Field Service Representative, the responsibility for gathering evidence lies with the customer/user. Detailed, accurate information will help expedite the claim and lead to finding the root cause for the issue in question.
