NewPage Research and Development
The Research and Development (R&D) facility of NewPage is located in Biron, Wisconsin, across the street from the NewPage Biron mill. Built in 1959 by Consolidated Papers, Inc., the building has undergone several expansions and equipment upgrades. R&D encompasses over 42,000 square feet on a beautiful 40-acre site where it explores new technologies and areas for innovation of NewPage product lines.

Escanaba Paper Company
The Escanaba operation was organized in 1911. Today the facility has one Kraft and one refiner mechanical pulp (RMP) mill, three paper machines and three off-machine coaters plus supporting equipment and one pulp dryer. The mill produces approximately 785,000 tons per year of coated freesheet, coated groundwood, specialty and uncoated paper.

NewPage Wisconsin Systems Inc.
Biron Operations
Begun in 1873 as a sawmill, the Biron operation began making paper in 1892 and now has two paper machines with the capacity to produce approximately 370,000 tons per year of lightweight and medium-weight coated groundwood paper. These papers are used primarily for magazines and catalogs. The mill has five boilers and four turbines that provide steam to the mill and 40 percent of the electricity to run the mill.

Duluth Operations
Duluth began operations in 1987. Its single paper machine produces several grades of supercalendered paper used for catalogs, magazines, advertising inserts and other commercial printing. This mill is the top producer of supercalendered paper in the United States with annual capacity of approximately 270,000 tons. The Duluth recycled pulp mill started as a Greenfield operation in 1993, producing high-quality recycled pulp. The facility recycles nearly one million pounds of recovered paper each day.

Stevens Point Operations
The Stevens Point operation started production in 1919 with a focus on fruit wrap, tissue, toweling and crepe paper. It has evolved into the production of flexible packaging papers, technical papers and label papers. The facility's two paper machines have the capacity to produce 185,000 tons per year of these specialty papers. This mill is known for its exceptional technical and customer service in the development of customized products that meet exact specifications.

Wisconsin Rapids Operations
The Wisconsin Rapids operation started production in 1904 and has the capacity to produce approximately 560,000 tons per year of medium- to heavy-weight freesheet coated paper. It has an integrated pulp mill with a capacity of approximately 500,000 tons and a converting facility capable of approximately 400,000 tons of production with a fully automated storage and retrieval system for parent sheet rolls as well as finished inventory.
