All NewPage mills have implemented chain-of-custody systems, which are third-party certified to FSC, SFI and PEFC standards. The lands NewPage owns and manages are also third-party certified to multiple forest management standards. Independent third-party certification bodies use appropriate principles, criteria and standards to evaluate forest management activities. Forest certification offers assurance that the wood fiber we use to make our paper products comes from responsibly managed forests where biodiversity is preserved and the harvesting of wood raw material is not more than what can be restored by growth.
Chain-of-custody systems track the movement of forest products from the forest to the customer. Chain-of-custody must be in place at every step along the supply chain – forest, pulp manufacture, paper mill, merchant and printer – in order for a product to carry a chain-of-custody label.
In addition, our Stevens Point, Wisconsin, mill has received ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 registrations. ISO registration means that our technical specifications and manufacturing processes meet the precise criteria established by the International Organization for Standardization.
